Learn 2 Quilt Online is my Dream Come True!

My love for sewing and crafting started in high school where I took my first sewing class. Sewing was something I had grown up around. I watched my father and grandmother (his mother) sew for years as a little girl. I watched and learned, but didn't actually get to sew until that first home economics class. Where it was finally my turn to touch the sewing machine.....it was a dream come true! I was a natural the teacher told me as she proudly displayed my skirt, vest and pants outside the classroom door in her display case. Mind you we were only supposed to make one item during that class. I was such a quick learner that I completed all 3 pieces on my pattern before the class ended.

As I grew up, and the challenges of life took hold I had to put my sewing away. I didn't pick it back up again until I was married and had children of my own. Although I made a variety of clothing items, Halloween costumes, home decor items and countless craft projects I wasn't passionate about any of them. I enjoyed the process and loved trying new things, but felt it wasn't really as enjoyable as it could have been.

But the day I discovered quilting was the day I found my true passion! While watching television one day, I stumbled upon a show called "Simply Quilts" with Alex Anderson, which was about quilt making and that was one day I will never forget. I was so inspired by the possibilities quilting could offer me in the way of creativity that I knew I had to learn more. And learn more I did. I bought books, and searched the internet for patterns or videos and set out to learn all I could about this hobby. It wasn't long before I started dreaming about owning my own shop. A place where I could share this fun and exciting hobby with others.

I wondered if I had the money could I  open up a quilt shop? But then the idea of managing a store, and all that inventory scared me to death. Truthfully at this point in my life I was in no position to risk thousands of dollars on a shop that I knew nothing about running. And besides my love wasn't selling fabric or products, my love was teaching others and sharing my knowledge of quilting. So instead I set off to teach classes in my community through various park districts, recreation centers, churches, etc.  I wanted to share my love for this craft with anyone who would listen to me. I even taught kids camps, and girl scout troupes. But this was less than productive. The planning and preparation for lesson plans, samples and coordinating schedules was time consuming and the number of students who signed up weren't all that great. A lot off effort for very little money is what I thought. I found it challenging to pick the perfect pattern, choose the right day and time, and then make sure it was also at the right price. A difficult challenge for me.

While surfing the internet, another light bulb went off in my brain, and I thought why not open up an online learning center? This would allow me to create patterns, and continue to sell them over and over without worrying about when I taught them. Making it easier for my students and my schedules. And I could do it for a fraction of the cost of live sessions.A win win situation for everyone.

It hasn't been an easy process learning how to get my dream website up and running. In fact I have had several false starts in the last 5 or 6 years. During this time I have tried  a variety of methods for sharing my patterns and knowledge on the internet. Everything from a partnership site, to blogs, to social networks and yes even a few attempts at my own site. I also experimented with various ways to present my lessons. I now have a better understanding of what will or will  not work. I had ot learn a lot more about internet marketing, file formats, and software than I cared to. But this learning process has brought me to this point, and this website. I do hope it will be my final attempt, and my final stop along this process. I want to get back to working on patterns and tutorials, not computer programing. So if you will stick around for bit, I am sure you will see my dedication to your learning.

My patterns are written with step by step instructions, and always include as many photos or images as needed to make sure you understand the lessons. But I don't stop there. I also give you plenty of inspirational images as well to help you see the possibilities in making my patterns your own unique creations. In addition to that I give you my personal email address in every pattern so that if you should need it, you have extra hand holding. I answer all emails personally within 24 to 48 hours with the exceptions of weekends or holidays.
